About the event

Petroglyph National Monument, spans over 7.200 acres. Its 20,000+ petroglyphs and 350 archaeological sites hold profound spiritual significance for Pueblo residents and descendants of Spanish settlers alike. Hendricks will discuss the cultural connections of the West Mesa and beyond that make this monument unique. She will also share the challenges of managing the site in a rapidly expanding urban environment when over 350,000 visitors a year enjoy the monument and contending with illegal activities such as graffiti.


Nancy Hendricks, with a keen interest in the environment since childhood, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks and Recreation Resource Management from Slippery Rock University and has completed post- graduate work at Northern Arizona University. Prior to 2019 when she began managing the Petroglyph National Monument, she worked as a park ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Pittsburg. That was followed by the Lake Mead Resource Program. …
