Activities & Events
New Mexico Historic Sites offer interesting and enjoyable special events at both the Coronado and Jemez sites. These programs are for the enjoyments of both adults and children alike.
AT CORONADO HISTORIC SITE
FIRST SUNDAYS
OCTOBER 4: COTTON - Learn how the people of Kuaua Pueblo spun and wove cotton with Pueblo weaver Louis Garcia. Tie dye your own cotton bandanna with natural plant dyes.
WORK IN THE DEMONSTRATION GARDEN
LAST WEDNESDAYS of EACH MONTH - 10:30 A.M. - 12 P.M.
$7 entrance fee for adults; free to children 16 and younger, NM residents 60+ with ID, Native/Tribal affiliations, disabled veterans, foster families, and Friends members.
Join Ranger Anthony for demonstrations of different gardening techniques at Coronado Historic Sites. Participants will work in the garden, so bring water and a hat.

ARTIST DEMONSTRATIONS - LAST SATURDAYS - 10:30 A.M. - 4 P.M.
Admission: $7 entrance fee, free for NMNF members, FCJHS, children 16 and under, people with Tribal affiliation.
New Mexico is home to 19 federally recognized pueblo tribes and Arizona is home to 12 Hopi villages. The artist demonstration program will highlight six artists from these groups. Visitors can meet indigenous artists as they practice their style of traditional and contemporary arts.

AT JEMEZ HISTORIC SITE
Looking to the Skies: Ancient and Modern Astronomers
• 🔭☀️ 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. MDT – Looking to the Skies
• Topic: This program explores both Indigenous and modern perspectives on astronomy.
• Speaker: Jim Greenhouse, Space Science Director at the New Mexico Museum of Natural
History & Science, will discuss the sun and other celestial objects.
• Activities: Visitors can also view the sun through a special solar telescope.
• 🔭☀️ 8 p.m. -11:00 p.m. MDT - Stargazing at Gisewa
• Activities: The evening event is an opportunity to view the night sky with telescopes provided
by The Albuquerque Astronomical Society. There will also be a presentation by Jim
Greenhouse in the museum.
• Food and art: Pueblo food and art vendors will be present.
• Location: Jemez Historic Site, , Jemez Springs, New Mexico.
• Admission:
Daytime program: The "Looking to the Skies" program is included with standard site admission.
Evening program: The "Stargazing at Gisewa" program is a special event.
Tickets are $10 for adults, with free admission for children 16 and under, tribal members, and
other select groups. You can purchase tickets online in advance.
